Recently, the ISO international standard draft “Bridge Crane and Portal Crane Acoustic Emission Testing”, which was leadingly drawn up by CSEI was voted through and wined project approval in Acoustic Emission Sub-committee (ISO/TC135/SC9), NDT technical committee of ISO. Mr. Shen Gongtian, Vice-president of CSEI was appointed as the head of this standard development team.  

The structure of hoisting machinery is huge, complex and accident-prone in recent years. In order to solve the technical problems of entire and quick testing and evaluation on hoisting machinery metal structure, since the year of 2006, CSEI successively carried out multiple research projects, such as “Technical Research on Hoisting Machinery Acoustic Emission Testing” of the National Science & Technology Pillar Plan in the Eleventh Five-year, “Extended Research on Hoisting Machinery Acoustic Emission Testing and Evaluation” of the National Science & Technology Pillar Plan in the Twelfth Five-year, AQSIQ Public Welfare Industry Research Special Project “Research on Key Technology of Hoisting Machinery Low Speed & Heavy Duty Swing Mechanism Condition Monitoring”. CSEI carried out quick testing and evaluation on hoisting machinery metal structure with acoustic emission testing technique, developed engineering application on tens of in-service hoisting machines, and formulated national standard of “Bridge Crane and Portal Crane Metal Structure Acoustic Emission Testing & Result Evaluation Method” (draft standard for approval) in September, 2014. On this base, CSEI proposed the draft standard of this ISO international standard, which stipulates personnel, instrument and procedure requirements of bridge crane and portal crane steel structure acoustic emission inspection, At the same time, the draft standard provides the method of data interpretation and result evaluation, which filled up the international standard blank in the field of hoisting machinery acoustic emission testing and was generally accepted by industry experts.   

The project approval and implementation of this standard will provide a set of scientific, reliable, quick, and efficient acoustic emission testing and evaluation method on hoisting machinery safety inspection and testing. At the same time, the research result of China’s hoisting machinery acoustic emission testing technology will be popularized and applied worldwide; the country’s international influence will be promoted in the field of NDT technology.
