The Global Environment Facility Project Preparation Grant

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Project Preparation Grant (PPG) (Promoting Energy Efficiency in industrial Heat Systems and High Energy-consuming equipment) preparation phase kick-off meeting has launched in Beijing on January 25 of 2013. Mr. Cui Gang, the deputy director general from Bureau of Special Equipment Safety Supervision of AQSIQ, Mr. Han Jianping, the deputy director general from Department of International Cooperation of AQSIQ, Mr. Lin Shuqing, the president of China Special Equipment Inspection & Research Institute (CSEI), Mr. Edward Clarence-Smith, the chief representative of China Regional Representative Office of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Mr. Wang Xiaolei, the secretary general of China Promotion Association for Special Equipment Safety and Energy-Saving, Mr. Xie Tiejun, the vice president of CSEI, and other experts and representatives from AQSIQ, UNIDO, CSEI, local inspection organs and enterprises have attended this meeting.


At the meeting, Ms. Bettina Schreck introduced the general status of the project, the expert Mr. Tao Yuan from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory presented a report in the name of “The UNIDO Project impact on Chinese industrial heat systems energy efficiency promotion”. Meanwhile, the Chinese experts introduced the situation of industrial boiler and heat exchanger in China, relevant laws and regulations, and status of energy efficiency technologies. In the afternoon, the initial meeting was held for “Promoting Energy Efficiency in industrial Heat Systems and High Energy-consuming equipment” project, which introduced completed preparation work and programmed detail arrangements for next working phases.


This meeting indicated the Project formally enter into preparation phase, after officially launching, the project will obtain grant assistance from GEF, it is significant for China to mortify its high energy-consuming special equipment energy-saving inspection approaches, promote legal system establishment, improve high energy-consuming special equipment operation management level and energy-saving awareness, facilitate technology ability of high energy-consuming special equipment manufacturer.
